The exit of the fetus from the incision site of the abdominal and uterine wall is called caesarean section. Caesarean section may be performed using general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia.

The reasons for performing a cesarean section are:

1 – Incompatibility of the fetal head with the pelvis

2- Respiratory distress (if there are obvious changes in the heart rate of the fetus, it is a sign that the amount of oxygen in the blood is not enough and the waste products of the fetus’s blood have increased).

3 – Abnormal position of the fetus

4-Problems related to placenta and umbilical cord

5 – Previous caesarean section

6-If the fetus’s head is not turned towards the pelvis

7-Pregnancy with more than twins

8- And miscellaneous cases including genital herpes, high blood pressure, diabetes, AIDS, large fetus and etc.

Aftercare for cesarean section:

  * After the surgery, you must have an effective cough, so by putting your hand on the stitches and putting a little pressure on them, first take a deep breath and then cough. Do this several times a day.

* If you have pain, first wait to reduce your pain by diverting your thoughts and talking to others, or by taking deep breaths and relaxing your muscles, and if these measures do not reduce your pain, inform the relevant nurse to inject painkillers for you if prescribed by the doctor.

* Move your legs regularly in bed to prevent blood clots in the veins.

* After your catheter and serum are removed, first consume liquids (sweet liquids), then sit in bed with the help of a companion. After a few minutes, hang your legs from the bed for 10 to 12 minutes and if you do not feel dizzy, get out of bed with the help of a medical companion.

* In case of gas accumulation in the stomach and constipation, it is necessary to move more first to get rid of the gas, and if it is not effective, inform the nurse, do not use laxatives and medicine without informing.

Necessary care at home:

* After discharge, you can take a warm shower. When bathing, it is better to take a shower standing up and avoid sitting for a long time, and also avoid rubbing greasy substances, etc. on the operation area. Only wash the operation area with a little soapsuds and rinse it afterwards.

* If you see purulent and bloody secretions in the operation area or if you have a fever, consult your doctor.

* In case of heavy bleeding, be sure to see a doctor.

* Avoid intimacy for 40 days.

* Start abdominal exercises slowly from the second week after the operation.

* One week after the operation, visit your doctor for an examination.

* Avoid eating flatulent foods and drink water and liquids instead.
