* Definition of TUL:

It is a new surgical method to remove ureteral stones in recent years.

* TUL surgery method:

In this method, the ureteroscope enters the bladder through the urethra, then enters it through the ureter, and after going up the ureter and reaching the stone, the stone is crushed with one of the stone crusher devices and its pieces are removed with a basket or tweezers. Sometimes it is crushed to such an extent that it is emitted by itself.

The duration of this operation is between 30 and 60 minutes.

* Advantages of the TUL method:

Most stones are treated in one session and the patient becomes stone-free very quickly, and this method is less dependent on the type of stone.

* Disadvantages of TUL:

1- It requires anesthesia.

2- Patients are hospitalized for one day.

3- Sometimes a ureteral catheter is placed for 48 to 72 hours.

* Early complications after surgery:

1-Pain after surgery

2- Fever

0-Hematuria

8- Rupture of the ureter

* Late effects:

1- Ureteral stenosis

2- Hydronephrosis

* Self-care:

  • The day after the surgery, you can take a bath and resume your normal activities.
  • Light activity and walking are usually enough to help expel stones, and excessive running and jumping up and down, jump rope exercise, vigorous exercises do not help to expel more stones.
  • Sexual activity is unhindered the day after the surgery.
  • It is better to drink more liquids.
  • If you see large pieces of stones in the urine, it is better to collect them and determine the type of stones by testing and have a more accurate diet.
  • If the double-J stent was placed in your ureter by the doctor during the surgery, as long as the stent is in place, there will be dysuria, bloody urine, occasional side pain and frequent urination, and it should not worry you.
  • See a doctor before one month to get rid of double J.
  • In case of fever, frequent vomiting, severe abdominal pain, urinary retention, see your doctor as soon as possible.
  • Drink plenty of fluids so that you have about 2 liters of urine per day.
  • Consume less meat. There is no difference between white and red meat in terms of calcification.
  • Consume less salt.
  • Use less substances containing oxalate, including strong tea, soft drinks, spinach and nuts
  • There is nothing wrong with consuming dairy products, but it is also beneficial.
